Summer Reading and Events

It is nearly that time again, and with summer right around the corner we have planned some great programmes and events for you.

The Summer Reading challenge has made a change from 2016 with a reading based challenge for kids and teens.

For adults, there will now be a seasonal challenge, which will last 3 months and update at the change of every season - spanning all year!

All of our challenges have great prizes, so be sure to scroll below to check them out as well as all of our fun planned events for the summer break.

Kids and Teens

The Great Escape

Wild about summer reading

When: 1 December 2017 - 31 January 2018
Ages:  0-18

This year we are challenging everyone to help us read our way around New Zealand.

Each book you read will help move our Library bus 30kms on its journey to discover some amazing places in the New Zealand wilderness. We need your help to read 2000 books to get the bus back home.

For every 4 books you read you can collect a library voucher and receive an entry into the prize draw. Read 8 books and you can choose a free book.

This year we are trying something new and are letting you enter as a family. You can pool all your family's reading into one booklet and still be eligible for all the entries and prize draws.

With 17 prize draws and a range of books and vouchers from Readings, Whitcoulls and Warehouse Stationery up for grabs, don’t miss out on your chance to win.

Pick up a Great Escape booklet from the Library, or download one below, and get reading from 1 December.

Seasonal Reading Challenge

When: Year round
Ages: 18+

Are you stuck in a reading rut? Sick of reading the same old stuff but not sure where to look for inspiration? Do you like a bit of a challenge? Our brand new adult reading challenges are made with you in mind!

After last year’s Summer Reading programme you told us that you wanted a longer period to complete the challenge and that you’d like to do something after summer too. So we’re launching our new Seasonal challenges. Set yourself a goal to read outside your comfort zone more often. Oh, and you’ll be in to win a prize each season too.

Summer Challenge cards will be available from 1 December.
