Library showcase! Celebrate our building refurbishment and 30th anniversary!

Invercargill City Libraries & Archives staff and management invite you to attend the blessing and opening ceremony of our newly refurbished building. We are also celebrating 30 years at our Dee Street location.

There will be live music, cake, and fun for all ages! The festivities will begin at 4:00pm with the ribbon cutting and blessing featuring honoured guests His Worship the Mayor, Sir Tim Shadbolt and Library kaumatua Michael Skerrett. Performances from Russ Dear, Ken Wellington, Jo Cooper and Emma Wells.

Winter Reading: Keep warm and carry on!

1 July - 31 August

Our Winter Reading challenge is back for 2019, and is open to all ages!

Read six books, fill out a booklet in the Library or online, and you could win! If you are an avid reader then you don’t have to stop at six books. You can enter as many booklets as you like! Completed booklets must be received by 4:00pm 31 August. Booklets can be returned to any Invercargill or Southland District Library, or submit your entry online!

Members of the Southland Astronomical Society will be in the Library to talk about star gazing, astronomy, and of course Matariki! They will be bringing some of their equipment too!

This will be a great opportunity to see some of their awesome equipment and find out about all the cool stuff they do.
